• Lysight, Michel:
  • Labyrinthes for Clarinet

Built in two parts, Labyrinthes (1997) begins with a very free movement that states one of the main motifs. Then comes a theme in rapid repeated notes. This section concludes with an interpenetration of fragments of both motifs. The second part, very virtuosic and rhythmic, evokes a two-part dialogue between the clarinet and an imaginary instrument through the numerous and rapid changes of register and especially through a particular effect of percussive attack mode (“slap tongue”). The version for clarinet – there are versions for flute or saxophone – is dedicated to Ronald Van Spaendonck, who recorded it on CD (Dux label).

The version for clarinet was recorded by Ronald Van Spaendonck on a CD entitled “Enigma” (Dux label 0531).
